WELCOME NOTE BY HOD


I am pleased to welcome you to the Department of Forestryat Shaheed Benazir Bhatto University, Sheringal, Dir (Upper), Khyber Pkhtoonkhwa, Pakistan. This department is the pioneer department established in 2005 at the then Sheringal Campus of University of Malakand. The campus was later upgraded to Shaheed Benazir Bhatto University, Sheringal in 2009. After Pakistan Forest Institute, Peshawar, this was the first department in KP for producing quality foresters for the need of the country in the public as well as in private sectors. Together with the local experts and field officers of the forest department of the country, the department of forestry built a reputation as being one of the most established forestry education, training and research in this region.
Currently only BS (Hon) in forestry is running in this department. A total of 94 students are enrolled in all four semesters. To date more than 230 students are passed out from this department. The majority of these studentsis serving in the KP forest department, many are enrolled in MPhil and PhD programs in national and international universities. Some of these students are doing jobs as foresters in foreign universities and organizations.
I will say if you have an interest in nature, if you want to work outdoors and if you want to work with interesting people, then I believe this department is for you. We have an outstanding location for forestry program. We have outstanding natural resources, dry, temperate forests, many wildlife and fish resources, lakes, streams and rivers.
The department of forestry aims to be the most dynamic and relevant forestry school in the country and will continue to produce human capital of the highest quality, relevant research and community service aimed at boosting the forestry sector in the country to remain important socioeconomically.
